Work takes up much of our daily time. Therefore, it is not surprising that work stress can filter into other areas of life making it difficult to find balance with career, relationships, and family obligations. Whether you are experiencing work-life imbalance, burnout and chronic stress, or facing a career transition, psychological counseling offers the support needed for professionals facing complex work and career issues.
WORK-LIFE BALANCE
Understanding the multifaceted challenges of work environments is key to addressing career and workplace issues effectively. Whether it is the pressure to meet deadlines, the need for adaptability in an evolving job market, or the elusive quest for recognition, everyone’s journey is as unique as their aspirations.
Navigating the complexities of work-life balance requires not only time management skills but also a deeper understanding of one's priorities and values. Many individuals find themselves caught in a cycle where professional success seems to come at the expense of personal fulfillment. This imbalance can manifest in frustration, fatigue, and a gradual erosion of enthusiasm for their chosen paths. This struggle often leaves individuals feeling overwhelmed, questioning their purpose, and navigating a sense of uncertainty about their professional paths. Addressing these challenges requires a holistic approach that addresses these issues.
BURNOUT AND CHRONIC STRESS
Career stress impacts more than just work. It often blends in with other areas of life. Some common symptoms include
Persistent worry
Fear of failure
Difficulty sleeping
Withdrawal or emotional outbursts
Avoidance behaviors or procrastination
Difficulty focusing or staying motivated
CAREER TRANSITION
I have over 30 years’ experience working with individuals facing career indecision, career transition, workplace stress, and burnout. My experience started with counseling hundreds of adults in a community college setting who were facing career indecision, workplace issues, and burnout. I have taught courses in career transition and job search techniques designed to assist individuals facing mid-life career crisis.
This background has led me to combine my expertise with workplace issues with my clinical training as a psychologist where I support individuals facing issues such as
Layoff and career transitions
Toxic work environment
Job dissatisfaction or lack of motivation
Retirement concerns
Entrepreneurial stress
ENTREPRENEURIAL STRESS
My experience with management is based on over 10 years of teaching management communication where I encountered many individuals facing challenges in becoming more visible in the workplace.
My doctoral dissertation “The Role of Social Support in the Job Seeking Behavior of Unemployed Professionals” examined the role of depression in the job-search skills of professionals. My unique background offers a deep understanding of how career and workplace stress impacts self-worth, relationships, physical health, and emotional well-being.
I am published in the field and have conducted numerous workshops on stress and workplace conflict in industry. Previously, during my experience as a professor, I produced a cable television series entitled “Chart Your Own Course.” This series showcased a variety of businesses in both the public and private sectors giving viewers knowledge of the types of jobs available and the skills and educational preparation needed for each.
